i’m ONLY going to focus on the positive right now…mainly because i KNOW how hard it is to do a show…especially one of this scale.
the video intro was a nice concept. i did like that. it seemed as though this award show was really gonna be nice…until…wait i said i would stay positive, right? lol
the performances were great though the sound system took away from it a bit…but all in all, the artists did a good job. the Wayna and JMills performance was HOT!!! Kyonte and Kevin Ross were cool. the female mc’s rocked despite some mic issues. the first gospel performance would have been good…if you could hear the dude singing (stay positive dwayne).
it was a valiant effort, but fell short of what i expected…and that might be as positive of a statement i can make on the rest of the show.
I seen people ready to riot in outrage over this joint…but at the same time, there are folks totally elated by it. again, i’m happy that there is an award show that is at least attempting to recognize our artists…but we have to encourage some serious dialogue about how do we improve from here.
Inclusion and transparency of the process is in serious question amongst a lot folks in and outside of the immediate DC area. How the EMA folks mend that broken fence with M and the V of the DMV is going to key to the future success of this show. I afraid to say that I think it drove a larger wedge than it was before last nights show. (nothing negative about that…just stating what my opinion based on what I’ve been hearing from the folks).
this is just my general feelings…to get into specifics would SOUND like i’m going in whole ‘nother direction. which i’d rather save that for a forum with the principal folks involved and not on a blog.
we have to be careful not to turn it into a bitching session instead constructive criticism.

by the way, there are other organizations that recognize DC artists. one of them that has been doing it FOR YEARS is The Washington Area Music Awards…the Wammies…do your research…get involved.
there are alternatives if don’t like something. so either be a part of the solution…get involved with something else that suits you better…or start your own award show. (2 cents and then some)

Peace…I pulled a no-show…Just like some guests do to Mental Salvation Radio. Now I was getting twitter messages and text message about how bad it was and how good the event was.
Granted i was apart of the 1st DMV awards (inwhich DJ Earth1ne and I took home the best Rap Group Award)…I was at the 2nd in which we play a major part in that as welll…..but when i saw and heard people who was up for awards and performers had to pay to get in…I said NOPE!!! im home with the family chilling…..
THE “WARNING” Video won for Best Video, but guess what!!! my NAME WASNT even on the Fucking….Award….

Other Then Being a Nominee That Couldn’t Find A Seat It was Good to See People come Out and Support the Effort. I Mean I Know I am Only a Spoken Word Artist but the Introductions could have been pre recorded like the Music Categories. It was Good Seeing some Old Friends that I Haven’t Seen in years. The Weed Smoking in the Back was Irritating but Hey thats they cup of tea. Next Year I would like to see it at a Bigger Venue and for it to be Handled A Little More Professionally. But I Thank The Ema’s for having a Poetry/Spoken Word Category cause Like DC Hip Hop We Fighting To Better our Genre.

funny if you either from DC or have a really good sense of humor! (its just comedy!!!LOL)
DJ Heat...Again.

Awards were like that top to bottom. I had to leave early and hit the booth. But the joint was like that. I enjoyed myself and had a good time. Seen a couple people I haven’t seen in years and wondered what happened to em. Congrats to all nominees, performers and winners.

I’m glad Dwayne mentioned the WAMMIES. I’ve never attended but have was introduced to the event in 2007. My man Christylez Bacon won two this year. I’ve never attended an EMA event, however, based on what I’ve read today, I can see it’s meant to be the equivalent of the BET Awards (good thing) and has the execution of The Source Awards (bad thing). My feelings towards the event grew sour as the weeks progressed but this was only the third event and there’s still plenty of time to improve (drastically) by next year.

stop getting gangster on the blogs
i gave my opinion on the awards show…simply
my habits or activities that I, or members of my squad choose to indulge in are not relevant to you…they do not concern you
not once has it effected our work ethic or preformances so your opinions are irrelevant
anyway…the awards was very unorganized and very hood..thats my opinion
congrats to all who won and got nominated
keep doing what you do
