On July 1, 2009 LunchBox Theory released the first of many Global mix tapes by DJ Underdog: “Africa Plays On”. For the past four months the new lifestyle group LunchBox Theory has teamed up with DJ Underdog to bring the longest running Afro-Beat Party in Washington, DC. The monthly event is known for its high energy, face paint, live drums, vinyl records, and inexpensive covers. “Africa Plays On” captures the same upbeat and healing energy ever present at LunchBox Theory’s monthly event: “Black Light Special”.

LunchBox Theory is comprised of two young women, Allison Howe and Christine Doelling. They have made it their mission to create peaceful and healthy spaces in their community, where people can share international and underground sounds.

DJ Underdog is a DC Hip Hop veteran, who founded both the well know promotion company, “Tru Skool”, and the sneaker boutique “Major”. While his history in DC is based in Hip-Hop culture, he has spent 2009 working with LunchBox to bring a more collective sound and lifestyle to the DC community.

Only vinyl is used on “Africa Plays On” and it serves as a tool to expose Afro-Beat and Diasporic music.
