As ya’ll are well aware, I attend a lot of events around the city to support the DMV artists. Recently I started to notice something. A lot of these artists are showing up to perform….Alone. I’m not talking about having their “music crew” on stage. I’m talking about having a friend, relative, or the person they’re dating out in the audience to support them. Why is this? I know for me, nothing makes performing easier than seeing a supportive friend out their in the audience. So where are the friends of the artist? I was joking with a friend about how a lot of guys rap about having all these females, but none show up to watch them perform. Fellas, the ladies like seeing a man on stage getting a bunch of attention. Believe that. lol So bring the ladies on out.

Speaking of bringing them out, I feel as though if each artist brought out their support system of friends and family, that would create a great crowd and expose that crowd to a new talent that they can talk about. Last week I touched on artists performing in front of each other. Well if each artist brought in like 2 or 3 friends, then you wouldn’t just be performing for other artists. You will be performing in front of consumers and future fans. Especially if each artist brought in some female friends, since females are THE big consumers of music and are the ones that shape this industry (that’s another topic). And like I tell artists before they perform, you never know who that person you don’t know knows. Makes sense? Read that line over and soak it in. You never know who someone is connected to.

So I challenge the artists to start bringing out their friends, boos, cousins, and drunk uncle out to watch them performing (Just keep the drunk uncle away from me. For some reason drunks migrate to the DJ booth. Again, another topic lol). Bring your support system with you. Don’t go out alone all the time. If someone is really your friend or boo, they should support you in all that you’re involved in. And in turn, maybe your support system will become another artists support system as well. And as you know, DMV artists need all the support that they can get. Until next Monday…
